I just shared this book with my Instructional Coach today! Congratulations.
Chris, what suggestions do you have for research with k-2 students?
That’s a great question and one I think it’s best to throw back to others!
My research on teaching research for this book looked at upper elementary and secondary students. I know people are doing amazing things with K-2, but I haven’t studied research instruction enough with those ages to have confident answers.
I would say joyful experiences – building “researcher” identities that are positive and meaningful – are more critical than filling out graphic organizers or citing in specific ways. Now is the time to learn to be curious and feel energized to share your learning with others.
Heidi Mills has a new book out, Learning for Real, that looks promising. I’ve only just started it, but I know her work is always engaging and respectful of students. If you stumble upon other sources please do share!
